Welcome to the Enfield CKD April Newsletter:

New Enfield CKD School Opening in Southgate

✨Fantastic News✨

As mentioned in last month’s newsletter we will be opening a new class in Southgate School from Thursday 25th of April. All students of Enfield CKD will be able to use this a ‘top-up’ class or change it to their normal class. Please let Mr Tailor know if you’d like to do this. 👏 😄

The class will run every Thursday from 6:30-7:30pm

Key dates

There will not be a class on 21st April which is Easter Sunday.

The Colour Belt testing on the of 30th April has moved to Tuesday 28th May.

We have a few more changes to dates for Tag and Colour Belt testings later in the year so please visit our Members page for the latest dates.

If you’ve subscribed to our calendars using the links on the Members page then these changes should already be reflected in your phone/PC calendar.

However if you use Google or Android then you may have to manually force the refresh as by default it doesn’t refresh. Note that Google will only return the copy of the calendar it holds so deleting and re-adding the calendar will not work unless you modify the URL to fool Google.

1. Open Google calendar and click on the settings icon which is normally along the top and looks like a cog or click on this link.

2. Scroll down until you get to the calendar you’ve already added and select it.

3. There will be an option now to unsubscribe. Choose this to remove the calendar.

4. Copy the URL from the list below to replace the calendar that you removed. Please include the ‘?1’ as this fools Google into thinking it’s a new URL. The number will need to change next time you refresh the calendar.

5. Go to the option in Google calendar to add a calender from URL or click on this link. Paste in the URL and click on Add Calendar. Hopefully this will bring in the updated calendar.

Eligibility for testing

A students eligibility to test depends on the senior leadership team’s view on whether the student knows their syllabus as well as the number of classes that they have attended. The number of classes needed is listed below:

Jul to Jang- min 7 classes
Jang to next rank – min 14 classes
Il Dan Tag – min 20 classes
Sam Dan Tag – min 30 classes
Sa Dan Tag – annually by review.

March Colour Belt Testing

It was great to see such a high standard from all the students who tested in March. Well done especially to Naz who had her last testing at our School and will be going for her First Dan in June. 😄🙌

March Black Belt Tag Testing

A good testing by all of our students. Congratulations to Mr Mistry has now achieved the rank of 3rd Degree Gold Tag. 👏👏👏🤩

Unfortunately Mr Tailor hadn’t recovered from his injury to be able to test. Fingers crossed that Mr Tailor will be physically fit for the July tag testing.🤞🙏

Going Cashless

The school will be going cashless in an endeavour to reduce the overhead of processing cash (and cheques) for

– fees (training and grading)

– licence and insurance

– merchandise (t-shirts, hoodies, etc)

All payments need to be made by bank transfer to the Enfield CKD account. The reference field should contain the students surname, first initial, a space then one of the following 4 character code as appropriate:

TFEE – training fee (for monthly STO)

GFEE – grading fee (for colour belt, tag and dan testing)

INSR – for licence and insurance
TEES – for merchandise (T-Shirts, hoodies, etc)

For example – TailorM GFEE

There is an 18 character limit so please use the student number instead if your family name is longer than 12 characters.

For example – 123456 GFEE

In addition we will require the monthly training fees to be paid on the 1st of the month by standing order. Late payment will incur a £5 charge per student.

Please discuss with Mr Tailor if you need to temporarily pause payment prior to stopping the payment otherwise it will incur a late payment charge.

After School Club

If you feel your child’s school would benefit from having Choi Kwang Do as an after school club then please discuss this with the SLT. Note that we will need contact details at the school to progress setting up a club.

Registration for Classes

Please ensure that you arrive on time to classes as the register closes when students line up to start the class and so it’ll not be added to your attendance count required for eligibility to grade.

March Colour Belt Testing

The next testing is at Turkey Street on Tuesday 26th March 2019 and is looking to be a large testing with over 30 students potentially being eligible to test. 😄👏
Timings are:

Juniors 6:30 – 7:30 pm

Adults 7:30 – 8:45 pm

All uniforms must be worn in full and be clean and pressed. Only Choi Kwang Do or plain T-shirts can be worn underneath which will also need to be tucked into the trousers. Belts must be correctly tied to form a square knot. Please see any of the SLT if you are unsure.

Testings are carried out without mats and need to be undertaken barefoot. However for our younger students we will allow trampoline/gripper socks to be worn. Normal socks without grips are unsafe so cannot be worn.

Please ensure that all fees are paid ahead of the grading. Students need to arrive 10-15 minutes prior to their session to allow the testing to start on time. Any students arriving after testing has started may not be allowed to join.

March Black Belt Tag Testing

Our next testing will take place on Monday 18th March 2019 at Harrow CKD School’s location in Claremont School. We wish all the black belts testing the best of luck. 😄👏

After School Club

Ladies Only Self-Defence Workshop

Saturday 23rd Feb was the first of our 3 hour LOSDW. 😄

What an amazing success. We hope all of those who attended went away feeling that they are a little more confident should the situation arise.

Keep an eye out for our next workshop on 14th September 2019.

Dan Testing on Sunday 25th November

The school has a large number of students grading for their First and Second Dan. So we will be cancelling the Sunday class on the 25th of November to allow everyone to come and support them on the day.

Hawaiian Quiz 🌴

An enjoyable time was had by all at the Quiz evening. Mr Tailor was one of a few that braved the cold temperatures and wore shorts. 😃

The children’s table managed to beat off no other competition and took first, second and third place. 😜

For the adult teams second and third place was a close result. In hindsight the team with Mr Venkatesh should have gone with his answers and they would have been in with a chance of winning. 😉

Mr Ince tried to distract Mr Mistry’s table with a bucket of KFC but they still managed to be the winning table.

Prize for best surfing dude to Mr Bunch. 😎

Enfield Choi Kwang Do September Newsletter

Welcome to the Enfield CKD September Newsletter:

Classes

😊 The new Wednesday family and beginners class starts on 5th September. The class will run 6.30pm to 7.30pm. Please let us know if you’re looking to come regularly to the Wednesday class instead of a Sunday or Tuesday class.
🏃 The Friday “T-FiT” class starts on 14th September. The class will run 7pm to 8pm….no formalities…just come in normal gym gear and get fit with other like minded individuals, £5 pay as you go. Your first class is free!

Leadership and Assistant Instructor Programs

Following up from last month’s article. The Senior Leadership Team and Instructor Liaison Officer will be continually assessing students to ensure that they are showing the appropriate behaviours and carrying out the agreed tasks for the program they are on, e.g. taking a warm up, putting together a lesson plan, etc.

The team will advise the student if they are not meeting their obligations. If the student is unable to meet the criteria then they will need to remain/return as a normal student in white uniform.

Fitness trackers

It’s quite common for people to wear fitness trackers whilst exercising like Fitbits, Moov Now, Samsung Gear Fit, Huawei Band, Garmin, Apple watch, etc. Some of these have hard edges which could hurt other students during defence drills or even break. We’re happy for them to be worn as long as they are securely covered by something like strapping or a sweatband.

Choi Kwang Do International App

Choi Kwang Do International have released an app for both iOS and Android devices. The login will be the same as the current student login details that you have though it’s currently disabled as the app is still being worked on.

Quiz

Enfield Choi Kwang Do warmly welcome you to our Hawaiian themed quiz night for both adults and children. Taking place at our Turkey Street venue on Saturday 22nd of September from 5pm onward.

We would like to see as many of you in Hawaiian themed outfits as possible!

Enfield Choi Kwang Do August Newsletter

Welcome to the Enfield CKD August Newsletter:

Classes

Just to confirm, that although the schools close for the summer we definitely do not! Classes are on as normal. 😃

😊 A new Wednesday family and beginners class starts on 5th September. The class will run 6.30pm to 7.30pm.
🏃 New Friday “T-FiT” class starts on 14th September. The class will run 7pm to 8pm….no formalities…just come in normal gym gear and get fit with other like minded individuals, £5 pay as you go. Your first class is free!

Changes to Leadership Program, Uniform and Eligibility for Black Belt Dan Testing

Pil Seung Parents and Students, from September we are looking to roll out fully our Junior Leadership program. This program encourages children from the age of 10 to take the first steps to be our future leaders. Students younger than 10 can join the program on the recommendation of the senior leadership team. Students will learn the following:

Teach a warm up.
Be competent in all their syllabus up to their current rank.
Able to recite junior promise and principles.

In addition, students will be expected to:

Regularly assist in class.
Assist in gradings.
Show the good mannerisms of a Martial Artist.

All those on the Junior Leadership program will need to purchase a new uniform which will be a red top with black trousers for which there will be a charge. There will not be any additional fees for joining the program.

As part of this change we are no longer appointing team leaders and hence will no longer be issuing black trousers. Juniors who have black trousers will be able to continue to wear them and will need to purchase the Junior Leadership uniform when they join the program.

Adult team leaders who have not passed their Assistant Instructor Qualification by September 2018 will have to revert to white trousers.

In summary where a member of the school is not in white uniform:

Black uniform with full gold piping – School owner

Black uniform with partial gold piping – Head Instructor

Blue uniforms – Qualified Assistant Instructors (14 years old and above)

Red & Black uniforms – Junior Leadership students

Enfield Choi Kwang Do warmly welcome you to our Hawaiian themed quiz night for both adults and children. Taking place at our Turkey Street venue on Saturday 22nd of September from 5pm onward.

We would like to see as many of you in Hawaiian themed outfits as possible!

Changes to Classes

Oakmere:

With regret we will need to close the Monday class going forward with the last class being on 16th July. Any Students registered at Oakmere will need to instead come to one of the Turkey Street classes.

Turkey Street:

From September we will be adding a mixed adult and children’s class on Wednesdays from 6.30-7.30pm.

In addition there will be a Friday ‘Choi Fit’ class also looking to start in September which will be run by Mr Tailor (Jnr). Attendance is optional and fees will be in addition to your current Choi fees. Details will be sent out nearer the time.
