Happy New Year and wishing you all a healthy and happy year ahead.
We hope you have all had a good break over Christmas and are now raring to get back into your training. 😀

Southgate School Class Move to New Room

From Thursday 11th Jan 2024 we will be moving to the Drama room W11 which is situated at the other side of the school. Please use the carpark on the West side of the school.
I’ve attached a map below to help. Please allow 5 minutes extra when you come for the first time in case you miss the entrance.

Late Payment of Fees

A reminder that late fees will incur an additional £5 for each person if the payment has not cleared by the 7th of each month.
If you are not currently training, but wish to remain on our register, then there is a minimum £5/month to cover registration fees or you can elect to be archived. Note that there will be a £20 administrative fee to reactivate your membership.

Training Protocols

All students will be required to bring hand safety to each class. Yellow belts and above will also require foot safety.
Please purchase your own using the guide at the end of the newsletter.

It’s important that students dress correctly for training.
Uniforms should not be crumpled when attending the class.
If you wear a T-Shirt under the uniform then the colour needs to match the uniform which for most students will be white.
Belts need to be tied correctly.

Eligibility for Testing

To be eligible to test requires a student to have met 2 criteria.
First complete a minimum of classes as below
No stripe on the belt – 14 classes
A stripe on the belt – 7 classes

You can check the number of classes on our school website under the Members Section. The below link will take you to the page
Testing Status
On the page you can see the number of classes that you’ve attended since joining or since the last testing.
Then in the Next Grading column
If green then you’ll have enough classes by the testing date
If amber then you may be 1-2 classes short so try and attend a few extra classes
If red then you will be short by too many so best to work toward the next test date

Second must be competent with their syllabus. This will be an in class assessment carried out by the Instructors in the weeks running up to the test date. They will only recommend a student being put forward for the testing where they can see the student is carrying out the syllabus to a good standard.

Referral Programme

Do not forget to join our referral program!
For every new student that joins through your recommendation you get a FREE grading!

Sunday 11.00am to 12.00pm – Black Belts and invited advanced students

Southgate:
Southgate School.
Thursday 6.30pm to 7.30pm (mixed)

Hand and Foot Safety

The current syllabus requires students carrying out defence drills to make light contact. The equipment can be purchased from wherever is most convenient for you.

– White belt senior and above, dipped foam hand safety.
– Yellow belt and above, dipped foam foot safety.

The Playwell site has a number of gloves. Below is an example with the CKD logo but any of a similar style will be permitted. Boxing gloves are not allowed.

The Playwell site has a number of boots. Below is an example with the CKD logo but either this style or the dipped foam style will be permitted. These are designed to be generally worn without shoes and the fit needs to ensure that the toes are always covered. If wearing shoes then a larger size will be needed plus adjustments will generally need to be made. Please discuss this with an instructor in class if you want to do this.

Welcome to the Enfield CKD December Newsletter:

They’re playing Christmas songs on the radio, the weather is getting cold and there’s hardly any daylight. We must be in December :D.

Good luck to our students grading for their first/next Dan on Sunday 3rd December.

The school takes a few weeks break over this festive period, see below for the dates, and we wish you all have a good break catching up with family and friends.
Please use the other classes that we run during the week to make up any classes that will be missed.

Regional Black Belt Dan testing at Wembley CKD School.
Note that there will not be any classes at Turkey St on the Sunday as we will be supporting our students at the Dan testing.

Thursday 14th December
Last class of the year will be at Southgate School.

A reminder that late fees will incur an additional £5 for each person if the payment has not cleared by the 7th of each month.
If you are not currently training, but wish to remain on our register, then there is a minimum £5/month to cover registration fees or you can elect to be archived. Note that there will be a £20 administrative fee to reactivate your membership.

Uniforms should not be crumpled when attending the class.

It feels like we’ve seen the last of summer and we’re firmly into Autumn with the rain and dark mornings and early evenings. Luckily it seems to have stayed fairly dry for Halloween evening.

Well done to all students who tested in September especially those in the last session where our brown belts were being tested on their full syllabus making it a much longer testing.

Notes for your diary:

Sunday 8th October
In class assessments for black belt students in the 11am class. So all other colour belt students will need to attend the earlier 10am class.

Thursday 12th October
Southgate School has an open evening so we will need to use our alternative venue of the Southgate Scout Hall starting at the earlier time of 6:15pm

Sunday 22nd October
No classes as students and instructors will be attending a first aid training course

First Aid Training

This is mandatory for all Chief instructors, Assistant Instructors, STORM and Leadership Team students.

It’s also available to other students or parents who want to develop their knowledge of first aid.
The course is from 9am to 1pm at Turkey street.
The cost of the course is £25 each.
Please message Mr Tailor if you’d like to attend the course.

Welcome to the Enfield CKD September Newsletter:

Welcome back to all those who’ve been away over the summer. Many of you have also received your A-level and GCSE results in August with hopefully the grades you were hoping for.

Please note that our next coloured belt testing is scheduled to take place on Sunday 24th September 2023
and our next Black belt tag test (Jnr to Snr) will take place in class on Sunday 8th October 2023.

We will soon be commencing our technical evaluations however please ensure that you have enough classes to meet the requirements. Details of classes attended and be found using the link below

The current syllabus requires students carrying out defence drills to make light contact. The equipment can be purchased from wherever is most convenient for you.

– White belt senior and above, dipped foam hand safety.
– Yellow belt and above, dipped foam foot safety.

The Playwell site has a number of gloves. Below is an example with the CKD logo but any of a similar style will be permitted. Boxing gloves are not allowed.

These are designed to be generally worn without shoes and the fit needs to ensure that the toes are always covered. Welcome to the Enfield CKD December Newsletter:

This is the last newsletter for 2022 and hasn’t the year gone quickly! We’ve had to introduce many changes to the syllabus which all the students have picked up without any issues.

December is a busy month with school plays, office parties and families getting together for the festive period. 🎉😁🎄

A few key dates coming up:

– Only 1 combined class at Turkey St from 10-11am

3pm-5pm Bring a Dish Family Quiz (Free to attend)
Please confirm with Mr Tailor if you’ll be attending and your team size.
If you bring a dish for sharing then please ensure that the ingredients are listed on a label for allergies and dietary requirements.

Late Payment of Fees

A reminder that late fees will incur an additional £5 for each person if the payment has not cleared by the 7th of each month.
If you are not currently training, but wish to remain on our register, then there is a minimum £5/month to cover registration fees or you can elect to be archived. Note that there will be a £20 administrative fee to reactivate your membership.

Training Protocols

All students will be required to bring hand safety to each class. Yellow belts and above will also require foot safety.
Please purchase your own using the guide at the end of the newsletter.

It’s important that students dress correctly for training.
Uniforms should not be crumpled when attending the class.
If you wear a T-Shirt under the uniform then the colour needs to match the uniform which for most students will be white.
Belts need to be tied correctly.

Eligibility for Testing

To be eligible to test requires a student to have met 2 criteria.
First complete a minimum of classes as below
No stripe on the belt – 14 classes
A stripe on the belt – 7 classes

You can check the number of classes on our school website under the Members Section. The below link will take you to the page
Testing Status
On the page you can see the number of classes that you’ve attended since joining or since the last testing.
Then in the Next Grading column
If green then you’ll have enough classes by the testing date
If amber then you may be 1-2 classes short so try and attend a few extra classes

In September the instructor team ran sessions for the Brownies and Scouts explaining how to keep safe including some basic close range techniques. We received great feedback from both groups on how useful they found the sessions. It was also lovely meeting one of our ex-students, Martin, in the scouts session. 😁

A reminder that late fees will incur an additional £5 for each person if the payment has not cleared by the 7th of each month.
If you are not currently training, but wish to remain on our register, then there is a minimum £5/month to cover registration fees or you can elect to be archived. Note that there will be a £20 administrative fee to reactivate your membership.

Hopefully everyone has settled into their normal routines. 😁

If you’ve recently tested then it’s important that you work outside of attending a class on the corrections mentioned on the testing sheet. If you need any help with these then please discuss with the instructors when you are in class as well as sending short clips on WhatsApp for the instructor team to review.

Southgate Classes

We will be running classes in the Scout Hall for the first 2 weeks of October due to Open Evenings being held at Southgate School. Note that these will start 15 minutes earlier.
