ECKD September Newsletter

Welcome to the Enfield CKD September Newsletter:

Good luck to all our students who are starting new schools or going to university this month. πŸ€—

We have started to introduce the rest of the syllabus (shields, focus mitts, close range) during the Summer break with those students who’ve been able to attend. This will continue going forward but will mean that less time will be spent on the basic patterns, offense drills, defence drills, hand and foot techniques so it’s even more important to practice at home.

Don’t forget your missed classes are carried over into September. You can attend any class to make up for the ones you have missed.
We’d love to see your holiday training videos on our Facebook page #holidaychoi.πŸ₯‹β›±β˜€

Mr Bunch has had to under go an operation on his knee so we wish him a speedy recovery.πŸ€•πŸ’πŸ‡

Congratulations to Miss Tailor on attaining her Assistant Instructor status. πŸ€—πŸŽ‰πŸ˜Ž

Training Protocols

We’ve continued with temperature checks and hand sanitisation during the summer as a precaution. From September we will no longer check temperatures so it’s vitally important that if you are in anyway not feeling well that you do not attend.

All students will be required to bring hand safety to each class. Yellow belts and above will also require foot safety. Mr Tailor has a few Small and Medium hand safety otherwise please purchase your own using the guide at the end of the newsletter.

Turkey Street Classes

The floor mats will be laid out for each class so training will be in bare feet unless you have a foot infection.
Leadership students and assistant instructors need to be available to help with the the mats. Please discuss with Mr Tailor in class.

March newsletter

Welcome to the Enfield CKD April Newsletter:

We are very happy that so many students have been able to carry on training through out March. 😊
From the end of March we have moved into the next phase of lockdown which will allow outdoor organised sports to start. Then from 12th April more activities will be possible including for those that still have hair to get a hair cut. πŸ˜πŸ‘©πŸ‘¨πŸ‘§πŸ½πŸ‘¦πŸ½

Thursday Classes

From Thursday 8th April we will be looking to book the Southgate Scout outside space to hold the class. It’ll be weather dependant so the intention is to check the weather forecast on the preceding Tuesday evening. If the forecast for the Thursday evening is dry then we will make the booking and confirm on Facebook and WhatsApp.

Online booking will then be opened to ensure that we meet Covid rules.
Classes will start slightly later at 6:45pm to allow the Cubs to leave.
World CKD Day

As part of the CKD World Day Celebration 2021, colour belt students & black belt students/instructors from around the world connected online for an almost 3.5 hour seminar with our Founder Grand Master Kwang Jo Choi, who was celebrating his 79 years young & 34th anniversary of the CKD foundation.
It was amazing to see the continuing upgrade to the curriculum & teaching methodology and again he proved that he’s not only a genius but also a β€œLiving Legend”.

Until next year CKD World Day 2022…35 anniversary & his 80 years young!

During April we will be loading up short clips from the seminar onto the Student Training Videos page which will cover parts of your syllabus to help you all better understand how the Grand Master intended us to learn and execute the various techniques. Testing Schedule for April

There is one grading planned for this month. Please ensure that your camera can be set up to clearly allow the instructors to see you from head to toe executing your patterns and offence drills. If that is not possible then you may not be able to test.
  • Thursday 29th April – Colour Belt Testing

Zoom Classes

April will see us continuing with Zoom classes due to lockdown restrictions. So, as we mentioned during the Zoom classes please review your set up so that you get the most out of each class.

– If using a phone then think about investing in a phone tripod
– For a tablet or phone then something like this. Which will keep them stable and allow correct angling for the camera.
– Wired or Bluetooth speakers for better sound as most seem to be struggling to hear us.
– If you are in a room with a TV and using your phone/tablet/Laptop then there are a number of cables that will allow you to link them.
Android USB-C/Micro USB to HDMI
Apple Lighting to HDMI
Laptop will depend on connections available.

– Some modern TVs’ allow screen mirroring which is another option.

For those using a laptop the common issue we see is that the image is landscape which then cuts off the head or feet from the shot. One option is to place the laptop on its side. This article explains how to then rotate the camera which would allow the instructors to see you in portrait mode.

Feedback for Students

It’s important as a School to ensure that there is a process that allows the Instructors, Students and Parents to provide and receive feedback especially as we can no longer accommodate for parents to view their children training. To that end we will start using a feedback form which will be provided to the student with a wallet.
Students need to

– bring the wallet to each class
– ensure that their parent/guardian reads and signs to say they have read the feedback
– store the last testing card in the wallet

Instructors need to
– ensure that they provide constructive feedback
– read and sign to confirm that they have read any feedback from parents/guardians

Welcome to the Enfield CKD March Newsletter:

At the end of February the Government communicated their roadmap to come out of lockdown. In that roadmap the earliest that organised indoor adult sport can start is 17th May so we will continue to offer Zoom classes until then.

Looking at the roadmap there maybe a possibility of holding classes out doors from the 29th of March. If this is confirmed by the Sport governing authorities then, weather permitting, we will make arrangements to do so.

Zoom Classes

January will see us continuing with Zoom classes due to tier 4 restrictions. So as we mentioned in last month’s newsletter please review your set up so that you get the most out of each class.

– If using a phone then think about investing in a phone tripod
– For a tablet or phone then something like this. Which will keep them stable and also allow correct angling for the camera.
– Wired or Bluetooth speakers for better sound as most seem to be struggling to hear us.
– If you are in a room with a TV and using your phone/tablet/Laptop then there are a number of cables that will allow you to link the them.
Android USB-C/Micro USB to HDMI
Apple Lighting to HDMI
Laptop will depend on connections available

– Some modern TV’s allow screen mirroring which is another option.

For those using a laptop the common issue we see is that the image is landscape which then cuts off the head or feet from the shot. One option is to place the laptop on it’s side. This article explains how to then rotate the camera which would allow the instructors to see you in portrait mode.

Licence & Insurance

Please ensure that you renew your CKD Licence and NAKMAS Insurance on time.
– The CKD Licence will have the issue date and so will expire 1 year after that date
– The NAKMAS Insurance will have the expiry date. NAKMAS have requested that we complete their form from their site. The link is here.

Please contact Mr Tailor if you have any queries about your License or Insurance.

We saw a good standard from those testing. So well done to all those students who tested in December. πŸ€—πŸŽ‰

Testing Schedule for 2021

For 2021 we will be alternating between using Southgate and Turkey St Halls. There will be an opportunity to test each month except for January and August. Provision has been made to also run Black Belt Dan and Tag tests through the year to ensure that our senior students can also progress.

The schedule can be viewed on our Calendar page.
There is an option to print off a copy as well as to add the schedule to the diary on your PC/Phone/Tablet. the advantage of adding this to your diary is that it picks up any updates automatically.

Late Payment of Fees

A reminder that late fees will incur an additional Β£5 for each person.
If you are not currently training but wish to remain on our register there is a minimum Β£5/month to cover registration fees or you can elect to be archived. Note that there will be a Β£20 administrative fee to reactivate your membership.
