From Thursday 8th April we will be looking to book the Southgate Scout outside space to hold the class. It’ll be weather dependant so the intention is to check the weather forecast on the preceding Tuesday evening. If the forecast for the Thursday evening is dry then we will make the booking and confirm on Facebook and WhatsApp.
Online booking will then be opened to ensure that we meet Covid rules. Classes will start slightly later at 6:45pm to allow the Cubs to leave.
As part of the CKD World Day Celebration 2021, colour belt students & black belt students/instructors from around the world connected online for an almost 3.5 hour seminar with our Founder Grand Master Kwang Jo Choi, who was celebrating his 79 years young & 34th anniversary of the CKD foundation.
It was amazing to see the continuing upgrade to the curriculum & teaching methodology and again he proved that heβs not only a genius but also a βLiving Legendβ.
Until next year CKD World Day 2022…35 anniversary & his 80 years young!

During April we will be loading up short clips from the seminar onto the Student Training Videos page which will cover parts of your syllabus to help you all better understand how the Grand Master intended us to learn and execute the various techniques. The first clips will cover Stance, Guard, Front kick and Side Kick.

Testing Schedule for April
There is one grading planned for this month. Please ensure that your camera can be set up to clearly allow the instructors to see you from head to toe executing your patterns and offence drills. If that is not possible then you may not be able to test.
There is an option to print off a copy as well as to add the schedule to the diary on your PC/Phone/Tablet. the advantage of adding this to your diary is that it picks up any updates automatically.
Zoom Classes
April will see us continuing with Zoom classes due to lockdown restrictions. So, as we mentioned during the Zoom classes please review your set up so that you get the most out of each class.
– If using a phone then think about investing in a phone tripod
– For a tablet or phone then something like this. Which will keep them stable and allow correct angling for the camera.
– Wired or Bluetooth speakers for better sound as most seem to be struggling to hear us.
– If you are in a room with a TV and using your phone/tablet/Laptop then there are a number of cables that will allow you to link them. Android USB-C/Micro USB to HDMI Apple Lighting to HDMI
Laptop will depend on connections available.
– Some modern TVs’ allow screen mirroring which is another option.
For those using a laptop the common issue we see is that the image is landscape which then cuts off the head or feet from the shot. One option is to place the laptop on its side. This article explains how to then rotate the camera which would allow the instructors to see you in portrait mode.
Licence & Insurance
Please ensure that you renew your CKD Licence and NAKMAS Insurance on time.
– The CKD Licence will have the issue date and so will expire 1 year after that date
– The NAKMAS Insurance will have the expiry date. NAKMAS have requested that we complete their form from their site. The link is here.
Please contact Mr Tailor if you have any queries about your License or Insurance.

Feedback for Students
It’s important as a School to ensure that there is a process that allows the Instructors, Students and Parents to provide and receive feedback especially as we can no longer accommodate for parents to view their children training. To that end we will start using a feedback form which will be provided to the student with a wallet.
Students need to
– bring the wallet to each class
– ensure that their parent/guardian reads and signs to say they have read the feedback
– store the last testing card in the wallet
Instructors need to
– ensure that they provide constructive feedback
– read and sign to confirm that they have read any feedback from parents/guardians
Use of Turkey St and Southgate Halls
