We hope that you and your families are all keeping well during this lockdown. Most of you are attending the regular Zoom classes which will help you in keeping up with your training. Please let Instructors know if there is anything we can do to improve the classes.
The Zoom classes will continue until the Government allows us to make use of the halls again. The most recent communication has indicated that the earliest schools will open will be early March. So, it’s likely that Zoom classes will continue at least into March.

February Challenge
This month’s challenge is to improve balance. Send in a video of yourself
Standing and putting your socks on.
If that’s easy then also put on the shoe/trainer and tie the laces.
All without letting that foot touch the floor or leaning on anything. 😊
Testing Schedule for 2021
There are a number planned for this month. Please ensure that your camera can be set up to clearly allow the instructors to see you from head to toe executing your patterns and offence drills. If that is not possible then you may not be able to test.
There is an option to print off a copy as well as to add the schedule to the diary on your PC/Phone/Tablet. the advantage of adding this to your diary is that it picks up any updates automatically.
Zoom Classes
February will see us continuing with Zoom classes due to lockdown restrictions. So, as we mentioned during the Zoom classes please review your set up so that you get the most out of each class.
– If using a phone then think about investing in a phone tripod
– For a tablet or phone then something like this. Which will keep them stable and allow correct angling for the camera.
– Wired or Bluetooth speakers for better sound as most seem to be struggling to hear us.
– If you are in a room with a TV and using your phone/tablet/Laptop then there are a number of cables that will allow you to link them. Android USB-C/Micro USB to HDMI Apple Lighting to HDMI
Laptop will depend on connections available.
– Some modern TVs’ allow screen mirroring which is another option.
For those using a laptop the common issue we see is that the image is landscape which then cuts off the head or feet from the shot. One option is to place the laptop on its side. This article explains how to then rotate the camera which would allow the instructors to see you in portrait mode.
Licence & Insurance
Please ensure that you renew your CKD Licence and NAKMAS Insurance on time.
– The CKD Licence will have the issue date and so will expire 1 year after that date
– The NAKMAS Insurance will have the expiry date. NAKMAS have requested that we complete their form from their site. The link is here.
Please contact Mr Tailor if you have any queries about your License or Insurance.

Feedback for Students
It’s important as a School to ensure that there is a process that allows the Instructors, Students and Parents to provide and receive feedback especially as we can no longer accommodate for parents to view their children training. To that end we will start using a feedback form which will be provided to the student with a wallet.
Students need to
– bring the wallet to each class
– ensure that their parent/guardian reads and signs to say they have read the feedback
– store the last testing card in the wallet
Instructors need to
– ensure that they provide constructive feedback
– read and sign to confirm that they have read any feedback from parents/guardians
Use of Turkey St and Southgate Halls
